Ms. Angela MitchellAngela Mitchell is the director of choirs at Stillwater Area High School and conducts Donne Unite –the women’s choir-at the University of St. Thomas. Ms. Mitchell’s teaching has included extensive work with both boys and girls changing voices at all levels of vocal development. Choirs under her direction have been selected to perform at the Minnesota ACDA fall convention, twice at the MMEA convention, twice at the Minnesota Choral Arts Finale, at the North Central Division ACDA convention, and most recently was the featured high school choir on NPR’s “From the Top” with Christopher O’Reilly. Mitchell has been a mentor to numerous student teachers throughout her career and is active as a guest clinician for choir festivals throughout Minnesota. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with a piano performance emphasis from Bemidji State University, MN. and a Masters of Arts with a choral conducting emphasis from University of St. Thomas, MN. In addition to her teaching duties, Mitchell has served as R&S chair for Women’s choirs in the state of Minnesota and is an active member of ACDA, MENC, and the Voice Care Network.

Ms. Katelyn SAWATZKEKatelyn Sawatzke (Larson) is a choir director at Stillwater Area High School and an adjunct professor of music at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. Her teaching experience includes work at the middle school, high school, collegiate, and graduate level. At SAHS, Ms. Sawatzke directs the advanced and developing treble choirs, an extracurricular 9th-10th grade chamber ensemble, and often serves as the vocal director for the spring musical. She maintains a private voice studio at home, and also teaches undergraduate and graduate level coursework in vocal pedagogy at the University of St. Thomas. Ms. Sawatzke frequently serves as an MSHSL contest judge and voice clinician at conferences, retreats, and festivals throughout the Midwest. Choirs under her direction have been selected to perform at the ACDA-MN Fall conference, MMEA (Minnesota Music Educators Association), and the St. Olaf Choral Festival.
Prior to teaching in Stillwater, Ms. Sawatzke taught at St. Francis High School and Middle School where she worked with 7th-12th grade singers, taught general music, and directed the SATB preparatory show choir, Prima Voce. Ms. Sawatzke is a former associate editor of the American Choral Directors’ “Star of the North” online magazine and remains an active member of ACDA and MMEA. She served as the interim director of the Colonial Church Chorale in 2018-19 and 2021, working with adult singers of all ages, and she currently enjoys performing as a soloist in churches throughout the Twin Cities. In 2020, Sawatzke was the recipient of ACDA -MN's "Outstanding Young Choral Director" award. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College in 2011 and her Master of Arts degree in music education from the University of St. Thomas in 2018. Email: [email protected]
